Foreclosure Prevention Counseling
Foreclosure prevention counseling helps individuals and families who have experienced financial hardships work through their payment and debt challenges. HUD-Certified Housing Counselors evaluate your expenses and income to establish a realistic budget so that you can catch up on payments and stay in your home.
What does a housing counselor do?
HUD-Certified Housing Counselors are trained professionals who have been educated on mortgages, the foreclosure process, as well as federal, state, and local homeowner assistance programs and services. They can listen, review your documents, and help you make informed decisions about your situation. They can also help you take steps to manage your debt, rebuild your credit, and avoid foreclosure. You won’t be pressured to make any decisions. Instead, you’ll get all the information you need to make the best decision for your situation.
What options do I have to avoid foreclosure?
Your options depend on how far along in the foreclosure process you are, and the lender/servicer options available. Reaching out as soon as possible gives you the most flexibility. Your counselor will help you understand your current options, your loan requirements, and how you can get back on track. Our HUD-Certified Housing Counselors have access to programs and services with the servicers that can help you stay in your home.
Counseling sessions may include:
- Reviewing the lender/servicer options available
- Current loan review for refinance and modification options
- Working with creditors
- Working with loan servicers
