Mission
Creating a safer, stronger community through home ownership and housing stability with support for homebuyers, distressed homeowners, renters, and abused elders.
History
Since its inception, A.R.C. has addressed the civil rights and social justice needs of elderly victims suffering emotional, financial and physical abuse that are in urgent need of protection, shelter and medical care in Southern Arizona. A.R.C. was first established in 1988 in Tucson, Arizona by our founder, Kay White, to respond to the urgent needs of elders in crisis who may be unable to acquire or access a range of community resources due to a variety of physical, mental and social challenges.
Under the leadership of Debbie Chandler, Executive Director, and after the stock market crash of 2008, A.R.C. expanded its mission to serve people facing dire economic hardship and foreclosure. With federal funding secured through the Arizona Department of Housing, A.R.C. became a HUD-Certified Housing Counseling Agency adding a host of foreclosure prevention and reverse mortgage services. In 2010, A.R.C. added offices in Phoenix to extend the reach of its counseling services to Maricopa County and statewide. A.R.C. is now a recognized HUD Housing Counseling Agency with national affiliations and partnerships.
As a 501(c)3 non-profit organization and Arizona Qualified Charitable Organization, A.R.C. provides housing and financial counseling services to individuals throughout Arizona while continuing to focus on serving the urgent needs of elders in crisis in Southern Arizona.
